Liverpool hold talks with Real Madrid over £20m midfielder – report

Liverpool want to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to Italian journalist

Liverpool have entered into talks with Real Madrid over the possible signing of Mateo Kovacic, according to reports in Italy.

The Reds have emerged as candidates to sign Madrid midfielder Kovacic in recent days as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2016/17 season.

The Croatian playmaker started just eight La Liga games for Los Blancos last term, making a further 17 appearances from the bench for the 11-time European champions.

Liverpool have been linked with a permanent transfer for the Madrid star, while a loan could be an option for the 18-time English champions ahead of the new 2016/17 campaign.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have held talks with Los Blancos over the possible signing of the 22-year-old midfielder in this summer’s transfer window.
