Liverpool receive boost after Napoli chief confirms midfielder wants Anfield move
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms Liverpool target Piotr Zielinski wants Anfield move this summer
Piotr Zielinksi prefers a move to Liverpool over a transfer to Napoli in the summer transfer window, according to the club’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The 22-year-old Empoli midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield since the end of the Premier League season after another eye-catching campaign at Empoli.
The Poland international, who is on loan at Empoli from Serie A outfit Udinese, is currently in action with the national team at the European championship in France.
Serie A runners-up Napoli were keen on signing Zielinski and the Pole was thought to be close to a move to the Naples club ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.
However, Napoli owner De Laurentiis has confirmed that Zielinski is holding out for a £9.5m move to Liverpool.
“We have reached an agreement with [the] Pozzo [family] regarding Zielinski, but the boy prefers Liverpool,” De Laurentiis told Tuttomercatoweb.
“Evidently he has never been to Naples or perhaps he is in love with the Beatles. If he does not want to come, he does not come. If I were him I would come running.”
The Poland star scored five times and made four assists in 30 Serie A appearances for Empoli in the 2015/16 season.
