Man United blow as £11.8m defender commits to Chelsea
Man United target Cesar Azpiliceuta rules out a move away from Chelsea this summer
Cesar Azpilcueta has insisted that he is happy at Chelsea despite talk of a move to Manchester United this summer.
The Spain international has established himself as the west London side’s first-choice left-back over the past couple of seasons following his move from Ligue 1 side Marseille in 2013.
Azpilicueta was a regular in Jose Mourinho’s title-winning Chelsea side in 2015 as he played in an unorthodox left-back role despite being predominantly right-footed.
The Portuguese coach was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor at Old Trafford last month after the 53-year-old was sacked by Chelsea last December following a poor start to the season.
The new United manager was thought to be keen on the Spanish full-back amid reports that incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte would be willing to sell Azpilicueta for a £11.8m fee.
However, the Blues defender has reiterated his commitment to the west London side despite interest from the Premier League and La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.
“It’s always a compliment that you are wanted, I’ve heard highly about Valverde [Bilbao’s manager], but I’m focused on the national team and Chelsea, I’ve been there for four years, I am very happy and I feel highly valued,” Azpilicueta is quoted as saying at a media conference.
Azpilicueta has won the Premier League, the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League since moving to Chelsea.
