Man United blow as Bundesliga club enter race for £16m striker – report
Schalke have entered the race to sign Manchester United target Breel Embolo
Manchester United are facing competition from Schalke for the signing of Breel Embolo this summer, according to reports in Germany.
Embolo is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to boost his attacking options in the United squad.
The new Red Devils manager was reported to have put his super agent Jorge Mendes in charge of the 20-time English champions’s attempts to sign Embolo.
Basel are thought to value the Euro 2016 star at around £20m amid interest from United’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the forward.
According to SportBild, Schalke have entered the race to sign Embolo as a replacement for Leroy Sane if the Germany forward leaves this summer.
The 19-year-old Switzerland international scored 13 times in 40 appearances in all competitions for Basel last season, attracting interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs.
United appointed Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May after a disappointing 2015/16 season.
