Man United see off competition in pursuit of £51.5m Valencia star – report
Man United are the only club left in the race to sign Valencia forward Andre Gomes, according to Marca
Manchester United are the only club left in the race to sign Valencia forward Andre Gomes, according to reports in Spain.
The Portugal international had been heavily linked with a summer move away from The Mestalla in recent weeks amid reported interest from Serie A champions Juventus.
However, the Italian side signed Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder Miralem Pjanic in a £30m deal earlier this week, which ended Juve’s interest in the Valencia forward.
The 22-year-old scored three goals and made three assists in 30 La Liga appearances for Los Che last term, alerting United to the talented Portuguese forward.
According to a report in Spanish media outlet Marca, the Red Devils don’t face any competition from rival suitors in the race to sign the highly-rated Valencia youngster.
The Portuguese playmaker is thought to be valued at £51.4m by the La Liga outfit, which would make Gomes the second most-expensive signing in United’s history.
The Red Devils appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager last month.
