Man United set to battle with Man City for £50m Premier League defender – report
Manchester City and Manchester United will compete to sign John Stones, according to reports
Manchester City and Manchester United will battle it out for the signing of Everton defender John Stones, according to reports.
The Toffees centre-half has continued to be linked with a big-money move away from Goodison Park despite the youngster’s disappointing end to the 2015-16 season for the Merseyside outfit.
Stones, who moved to the Toffees from Barnsley in 2013, came close to joining Chelsea last summer but Everton rejected several bids from Jose Mourinho’s Blues side.
The Portuguese coach was named as United’s new manager last month and Mourinho has been linked with another move for the England centre-half as he looks to strengthen the Red Devils’s defensive options.
According to the Daily Star, United will face competition from their derby rivals City for the signing of the 20-year-old defender.
Stones made 33 Premier League appearances for the Toffees last season despite a difficult campaign for the Englishman.
Everton appointed Ronald Koeman as Roberto Martinez’s successor on Tuesday.
