Manchester United opted not to sign Jamie Vardy this summer so as not to hamper the progress of Marcus Rashford, say reports

Manchester United have turned down the opportunity to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City, according to reports.

The England striker’s future has been a big source of speculation in recent days and Arsenal are believed to have made contact with the Foxes about the possibility of bringing the forward to Emirates Stadium.

United, who appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager last month, have also been linked with a big-money bid to bring Vardy to Old Trafford.

However, Sky Sports is now reporting that Mourinho has passed up the opportunity to sign Vardy, because he does not want to hamper the progress of United’s young stars such as Marcus Rashford.

The same report goes on to say that Mourinho has identified Zlatan Ibrahimovic as his only attacking transfer target this summer as he bids to revamp his squad ahead of his first season in charge at the club.

United finished fifth last term.
