Manchester United are ready to pay as much as £54m to sign John Stones this summer, say reports

Manchester United are reportedly willing to shell out as much as £54m to bring John Stones to Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils have already been linked with a host of new player since the appointment of Jose Mourinho as the club’s new manager last week.

Mourinho is understood to be a keen admirer of Everton defender Stones and failed in his attempts to lure the centre-half to Chelsea last summer.

Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the England international, but the Daily Express is now reporting that United’s willingness to shell out a big fee to land Stones could end the La Liga side’s pursuit of the defender.

The same report goes on to say that Mourinho has been handed as much as £200m to spend on new signings this summer as he bids to revamp his Manchester United squad.
