New Arsenal signing reveals his first conversation with Arsene Wenger

Granit Xhaka reveals how Arsene Wenger helped to convince him to join Arsenal this summer

Granit Xhaka has lifted the lid on how Arsene Wenger convinced him to join Arsenal this summer.

The Switzerland international joined the north London side from Borussia Monchengladbach last month to become the Gunners’ first signing of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old will now turn his attentions to Euro 2016 with Switzerland before joining up with his new Arsenal team-mates after the tournament in France.

And Xhaka has revealed how a short phone conversation with Wenger helped to convince him that a move to Emirates Stadium was the right decision for him.

Xhaka is quoted as saying by Metro: “It was madness, he’s a legend to me. Suddenly he is on the mobile and wants me. I will never forget his first sentence.

“He said: ‘If you want to enjoy football, you have to join us. Here is the paradise.’

“He has an incredibly calm but convincing manner. It makes me proud to work under such a coach.”

Arsenal are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Wenger looks to revamp his squad ahead of next season.
