New Arsenal signing turns the heat up on Man United
Granit Xhaka says beating Manchester United was the highlight of his career to date...
Granit Xhaka has revealed that beating Manchester United with FC Basel was one of the highlights of his career to date.
The Switzerland international secured a transfer to the north London club last month as Arsene Wenger moved quickly to bolster his midfield options at Emirates Stadium ahead of next season.
Xhaka became Arsenal’s first signing of the summer last month as he joined from Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m.
The 23-year-old helped Basel beat Manchester United in the Champions League, and the midfielder has revealed that he considers that to be one of the best moments of his career to date.
Xhaka told Arsenal Player: “I think [the best moment of my career] was a game against Manchester United for Basel.
“We played in Manchester and drew 3-3, then we played at home and won 2-1 to knock them out [of the Champions League] and progress to the next round.
“It was big. Basel were a smaller club than Manchester United and to beat them 2-1 was a very nice moment.”
Arsenal are still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings as Wenger bids to guide his side to the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 next season.
The Gunners finished second last term.
