Owen Hargreaves makes bold claim about Jose Mourinho and Man United
Owen Hargreaves has a strong opinion about Jose Mourinho's move to Manchester United
Owen Hargreaves has claimed that Manchester United were “spooked” into recruiting Jose Mourinho following the arrival of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The Portuguese coach was appointed as United’s new manager on a three-year contract last month after relentless speculation linking him to the Old Trafford role.
His arrival at Old Trafford came after their bitter local rivals City moved quickly to bring in Guardiola as their new boss at Etihad Stadium.
And former United midfielder Hargreaves feels that the decision to bring in Mourinho was accelerated by Guardiola’s move to City.
Hargreaves is quoted as saying by Squawka: “Mourinho is at Manchester United because Pep is at City.
“United were not completely thrilled about signing him even a few months ago. But Guardiola’s arrival at City spooked them.”
Mourinho has already made the first signing of his reign as Manchester United boss by wrapping up a deal to bring defender Eric Bailly to the club.
The Portuguese coach is understood to be on the lookout for a number of other new signings as he prepares for his first season in charge at Old Trafford.
