Paul Merson: Arsenal must sign this player in the summer transfer window

Paul Merson has urged Arsenal to make a transfer swoop to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton this summer following their failed bid for Jamie Vardy.

The Gunners have tabled a £20m bid to bring Vardy to The Emirates but it appears that the striker has made up his mind to stay at Leicester City beyond the summer transfer window.

Arsene Wenger recently appeared to concede defeat in Arsenal’s pursuit of the striker as the Frenchman prepares to turn his attentions elsewhere.

Wenger is thought to be keen to bring in a new striker as he bids to revamp his squad ahead of the 2016-17 at The Emirates.

And former Arsenal man Merson feels that Lukaku would be the perfect man to fit into Wenger’s team at the north London side.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Merson said: “I think he’s a bit different, a bit stronger up front which would help Arsenal.

“I can see why Chelsea let him go; he was one of them that needed the ball over the top. But he was a young kid and I think he’s learnt his trade now.

“It just depends how much he is.”
