Pepe Reina’s father comments on Liverpool transfer talk

Pepe Reina is not thinking about a transfer back to Liverpool, according to his father

Pepe Reina is not considering a summer transfer back to Liverpool, according to the goalkeeper’s father.

The Red have been linked with a surprise swoop to bring the shot-stopper back to Anfield from Napoli in recent days.

The reports in the Italian media emerged despite Liverpool having already signed a goalkeeper this summer, with Loris Karius arriving from Mainz earlier in the transfer window.

However, it appears that a move back to Merseyside for the Spaniard is not on the cards, if his father’s latest comments about the reports are anything to go by.

Miguel Reina is quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport: “We do not talk about the market in the family, we are not aware of the interest of Barcelona or other teams.

“Liverpool? There is nothing, just rumors. The great affection that Pepe has for the Napoli is known.”

Reina is a fan favourite at Anfield, with the 33-year-old goalkeeper having helped the club win the FA Cup and League Cup during his eight years on Merseyside between 2005 and 2013.
