Peter Beardsley makes bold claim about Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool
Peter Beardsley believes Liverpool's rivals will be stronger in the Premier League next season
Peter Beardsley has questioned whether Jurgen Klopp will be able to bring silverware to Liverpool this season after some big-name appointments at their Premier League rivals.
The charismatic ex-Borussia Dortmund manager took over the reins at Anfield last October after Liverpool made a disappointing start to the season under Brendan Rodgers.
The 48-year-old guided Liverpool to two cup finals last term after the Reds lost to Manchester City in the League Cup at Wembley followed by a 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League showpiece.
The Merseyside outfit finished in eighth place in the Premier League table, which means Klopp’s side will be without European football in the 2016/17 season.
However, former Liverpool midfielder Beardsley believes competition will be fierce for silverware next term following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager and Antonio Conte’s imminent arrival at Chelsea.
“There is no doubt that Klopp will be a success – he has a brilliant mentality about him and is a brilliant manager which he proved at Dortmund – but will it be this season?” said Beardsley, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“You look at Conte and Mourinho and Guardiola at City. Then there’s Leicester and Arsenal and Tottenham.”
Klopp won two Bundesliga titles during his eight-year spell in charge of Dortmund.
