Robert Pires offers Jamie Vardy blunt Arsenal transfer advice
Robert Pires says Jamie Vardy should complete a move to Arsenal this summer
Robert Pires believes Jamie Vardy should join Arsenal but has warned the Leicester City striker that a transfer to The Emirates would represent a big step up.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has targeted the Premier League winner as a marquee summer signing with the Gunners reported to have activated the striker’s contract release clause.
The Foxes striker scored 24 times in 36 Premier League games for the English champions – only Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane netted more goals than his England colleague.
Vardy has also been linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in recent days as the Leicester star waits until after Euro 2016 to make a decision on his future.
Former Arsenal midfielder Pires believes Vardy should complete a transfer to the Gunners, talking up the England international’s qualities.
“There is no reason why it couldn’t work out for Vardy. He scored a lot of goals in the Premier League last season and is now known around the world,” Pires told Daily Mail.
“He has the ability, comes across as very hard-working which Arsenal like, and he’s a great finisher. There’s a lot more pressure with playing for a big club, so it will be a step up.”
Vardy was one of the key players in Leicester’s successful Premier League title campaign alongside N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez.
