Thierry Henry was impressed by Granit Xhaka's display for Switzerland
Thierry Henry has praised Granit Xhaka’s fierce character after the new Arsenal signing helped to inspire Switzerland to a 1-0 win over Albania at Euro 2016 on Saturday.
Xhaka came up against his brother Taulant as the pair became the first siblings to play on opposing sides at the European championships.
The Swiss midfielder has signed a long-term contract to become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer as Arsene Wenger moved quickly to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
The 23-year-old will be hoping to earn his place in the Arsenal first team next season as he bids to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.
And former Arsenal captain Henry was impressed by Xhaka’s attitude during Switzerland’s narrow win over Albania on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the coverage of the game, Henry said: “He showed that he doesn’t care whether he’s playing against his brother or against his roots.
“He just wants to win the game.”
