Wolfsburg provide Arsenal transfer update on £19m Swiss defender
Arsenal target Ricardo Rodriguez wants a summer transfer, Wolfsburg's sporting director confirms
Ricardo Rodriguez wants to leave Wolfsburg amid reported interest from Arsenal, according to the Bundesliga club’s sporting director.
The Switzerland international has been linked with a move to the Gunners in recent weeks as Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defensive options at the Emirates Stadium.
Rodriguez impressed for the Wolves over the course of the 2015/16 season after a return of two goals and three assists in 24 appearances in the German top flight.
The Swiss left-back has been touted as a potential option for Wenger, with Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal currently rivals for the position in the manager’s starting line-up.
Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs confirmed that Rodriguez has asked to leave the Bundesliga outfit amid interest from the Premier League side.
“Rici has stated that his future is not with us,” Allofs is quoted as saying by Daily Express.
“But we can live with this decision.”
Rodriguez, who is currently on international duty at this summer’s European championship in France, is thought to be valued at £19m by his employers.
