AC Milan provide Arsenal transfer update on Colombia striker
Vincenzo Montella reveals Carlos Bacca's desire to play in the Champions League
Vincenzo Montella says AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca is desperate to play in the Champions League next season amid reported interest from Arsenal.
The Rossoneri failed to secure a spot in the top three in Serie A last season as Montella’s side finished in seventh place in the table – 23 points behind third-placed Roma.
Bacca has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks amid reported interest from Arsenal and West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
Milan manager Montella has offered the Gunners hope of landing the Colombian striker after confirming the 29-year-old wants to play in Europe’s premier club competitions next term.
“Bacca is a player of an international standard,” Montella is quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport.
“It’s hard to give up a player who guarantees goals. The club will evaluate things with the boy, because he aspires to play in the Champions League.
“The squad needs to be completed but we have clear ideas. The ball is now in CEO Adriano Galliani’s court – he must make the best choices based on the market and our finances.”
Bacca netted 18 times in 38 Serie A appearances for AC Milan in the 2015/16 campaign.
Arsenal have signed two players in the summer transfer window as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
Granit Xhaka completed a £33m move to the Emirates Stadium from Borussia Monchengladbach before the European championship.
Wenger, who hasn’t led the north London side to the Premier League title since 2004, also snapped up relative unknown Japanese striker Takuma Asano.
