Antonio Conte comments on new Chelsea signing
Antonio Conte is backing Michy Batshuayi to have a big impact at Chelsea next season
Antonio Conte has described Michy Batshuayi as a “great talent” and is backing the striker to have a big impact at Chelsea next season.
The Belgium international has become Chelsea’s first signing of the summer transfer window after he joined from Marseille earlier this month.
The 22-year-old is Conte’s first official signing since the Italian coach was appointed as the club’s new manager.
The Italian was officially unveiled to the media at Stamford Bridge on Thursday afternoon after he took charge of his first training sessions at Chelsea earlier in the week.
And the former Juventus head coach is backing Batshuayi to make a splash in the Premier League next season under his guidance.
Speaking at his official Chelsea unveiling at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, Conte said: “Absolutely I think Michy can make an impact because he is a young player but very strong, with good technique.
“He uses two feet. He is a great talent.
“I am very happy that Batshuayi is with us and I know the club bought a great player for the present and the future.”
Chelsea moved quickly to appoint Conte as their new manager after the club sacked Jose Mourinho back in December following their disastrous start to the Premier League season.
The Blues finished 10th in the table last term.
