Antonio Conte’s message for his Chelsea players
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte issues a message of warning to his new players
Antonio Conte has warned his Chelsea players to expect the hardest summer of their lives.
The 46-year-old will be officially unveiled as Chelsea’s new manager on Thursday afternoon at Stamford Bridge after Conte was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s permanent replacement earlier this year.
The former Italy head coach, who led the Azzurri to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, enjoyed great success with Juventus during a three-year spell in charge at Turin.
The retired Lecce defender won three successive Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia with the Old Lady before deciding to quit to take over the Italy national team in 2014.
New Chelsea manager Conte has warned the Blues squad to expect a rigorous pre-season ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.
“Be prepared to slog, this will be the hardest summer of your life,” Conte told The Times – as quoted by forzaitalianfootball.com.
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last term after a disappointing defence of their top-flight crown.
Mourinho was sacked in December after Chelsea lost nine times in the opening four months of the 2015/16 campaign.
The west London side have won the Premier League title on four occasions under Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.
