Arsenal blow as Wolfsburg chief insists Germany forward won’t leave
Wolfsburg rule out the prospect of Arsenal target Julian Draxler leaving the club this summer
Arsenal have suffered a blow to their hopes of signing Julian Draxler after Wolfsburg ruled out the prospect of the Germany forward leaving this summer.
According to >The Daily Mirror, the Gunners are interested in the £55m-rated Germany international in the summer transfer window as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of different players this summer, but Wenger thus far has only signed Borussia Monchengladbach and Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka and Japanese forward Takuma Asano.
And Wenger’s prospects of making a third summer signing took a blow on Friday after Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs ruled out Draxler’s sale in the summer transfer window.
“With Julian Draxler it will be 100% like this,” Allofs told Sport1. “He will stay. There is no discussion.
Allofs added: “It is not the time for any vow, but we will not give Julian [away]. Even when I say this as clearly, no peace will come. But our plans are clear.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season after Wenger’s men managed to pip north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the runners-up spot on the final day of the 2015/16 season.
The Gunners finished without any silverware after making premature exits in the Champions League and the FA Cup in the second half of the campaign.
