Chelsea fail with bid for Spain striker – report
Real Madrid have rejected Chelsea's £51.2m (€60m) offer for Alvaro Morata, according to MARCA
Chelsea have failed with a £51.2m (€60m) bid for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish media outlet MARCA have claimed that the Blues have been knocked back despite a big-money offer for the Real Madrid centre-forward amid interest from their Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Morata sealed a return to Los Blancos earlier this month after the Champions League holders activated a buy-back clause in his contract with Serie A holders Juventus.
The same newspaper story reports that Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in the Spain international, who scored two goals in four games for La Roja at the European championship.
However, the same report claims that Chelsea’s offer was rejected by Madrid amid continued speculation surrounding the centre-forward’s future at The Bernabeu.
The 23-year-old Madrid striker spent two seasons in Turin as Morata won two Serie A titles and finished as a Champions League runner-up in 2015.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of different players in the summer transfer window but Arsene Wenger has only signed Granit Xhaka and Takuma Asano in the current market so far.
