Arsenal defender delivers his verdict on Jamie Vardy
Hector Bellerin runs the rule over Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy amid Arsenal link
Hector Bellerin says Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is an inspiration to young Premier League players.
The Spanish defender has established himself as a regular in Arsene Wenger’s first-choice right-back following an impressive 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
According to a BBC Sport report earlier this summer, Arsenal submitted an offer which activated the England international’s contract release clause.
Vardy scored 24 times in 36 Premier League games for the 29-year-old centre-forward as Leicester won their first-ever top-flight crown last term.
Like the Leicester striker, Bellerin was included in the PFA Premier League team of the year after an impressive campaign in the Arsenal first team.
And the 21-year-old has spoken about the inspiration that Vardy is providing to young footballers following his stunning season for the Foxes.
“[Young players] have a clear example this year in Jamie Vardy – someone that was playing at a lower tier team,” Bellerin told PremierLeague.com.
“Through fighting, he’s gained his chance and taken his chance to make it in the Premier League.
“I think it’s a clear example for young players, and it’s better to have an image than 1,000 words.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but 10 points behind Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes side.
Vardy scored against Wales in England’s 2-1 victory over Wales at the European championship this summer.
The Foxes striker has netted 50 times in 144 appearances in all competitions for Leicester over the past five years.
