Arsenal legend backs reported Man United target Paul Pogba to thrive in Premier League
Thierry Henry is backing Paul Pogba to be a success in the Premier League should he seal a return to England
Thierry Henry believes that Paul Pogba has all of the necessary ingredients to be a hit in England should he secure a return to the Premier League this summer.
Recent reports in the British media have been claiming that Manchester United are stepping up their interest in signing the France midfielder from Juventus in the current transfer window.
Pogba was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2012 and was allowed to leave Old Trafford to sign for Juventus.
The midfielder has since developed into one of Europe’s most exciting midfielders and his future beyond the summer has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months.
Former Arsenal striker Henry is a keen admirer of his compatriot and would back him to succeed in the Premier League if he were to seal a return to England.
Speaking to Sky Sports, ex-Gunners captain Henry said: “What I love about him at the moment is that he’s doing what the team’s asking him to do; maybe he’s sometimes a bit more fancy at Juventus but because Antoinee Griezmann is playing behind Olivier Giroud for France, he has to defend a bit more.
“That’s the sign of his intelligence. He’s playing within himself in a way, to make sure the team has the right balance.
“We all know about the quality, how good he is on the ball. He’s an all-round player but he’s understood his role at this tournament [Euro 2016].
“Hopefully he can come back to the Premier League – it would be great for us and for whoever got him but he’s still a Juve player and they’re not going to let him go (easily).”
