Arsenal open talks over Arsene Wenger’s next signing – report
Arsenal are in talks over a potential bid to sign Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia, say reports in Germany
Arsenal have opened talks with Valencia about signing defender Shkodran Mustafi this summer, according to reports in Germany.
Sky Germany – as reported by Sky Sports News HQ – are claiming that the north London side are considering a bid to land the 24-year-old Germany defender as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his rearguard options at The Emirates ahead of next season.
The same report, however, says that Arsenal have not yet tabled an official offer to sign the defender.
The story goes on to report that Mustafi has a release clause of £42.1m in his contract with the Spanish club but Arsenal are hopeful that they may be able to sign the German for £25.3m plus £8.4m in add-ons.
Wenger has confirmed his desire to sign a new defender this summer after Per Mertesacker was ruled out of action for a number of months following knee surgery.
The Gunners have already brought in young defender Rob Holding but the club could still make a move to bring in another centre-half.
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season.
