Arsenal ready to battle Chelsea to sign star striker – report
Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in signing Alvaro Morata this summer, say reports
Arsenal are set to battle with Chelsea in the race to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The London Evening Standard is reporting that Arsenal are keen to sign the Spain international but are waiting for Real Madrid to lower their £57m asking price for the player.
Morata’s future has been a source of speculation since Real Madrid triggered the buy-back clause which allowed the Spanish club to re-sign him from Juventus earlier this summer.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has already signalled his intention to bolster his attacking options at The Emirates with the club’s failed bid to sign Jamie Vardy this summer.
Now, the same newspaper story says that Arsenal are keen to sign Morata, but that both the Gunners and Chelsea are reluctant to meet Real Madrid’s current asking price for the player.
The story also suggests that Chelsea may have an advantage in the race to sign the striker – because it was Antonio Conte who convinced Morata to join Juventus from Madrid two years ago.

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season, 10 points behind champions Leicester City, and were criticised for their lack of a clinical edge in front of goal.
