Arsenal striker’s agent talks up transfer to Napoli
Olivier Giroud would be open to a move to Napoli, according to the striker's agent
Olivier Giroud would be open to the possibility of joining Napoli from Arsenal this summer, according to the striker’s agent.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio, the Gunners are contemplating the prospect of using Giroud as a makeweight in a big-money deal to sign Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli this summer.
The France striker was Arsenal’s top goal-scorer in the Premier League last season after the 29-year-old centre-forward netted a respectable 16 times in 34 appearances.
However, Giroud’s tally is some way short of Higuain’s 36 goals in 35 Serie A fixtures, which set a new record for the most goals in one season in the Italian top flight.
Now, the Arsenal striker’s agent Michael Manuello has revealed that his client wouldn’t find the prospect of moving to Napoli daunting in the summer transfer window.
“If he was asked to leave, then we would evaluate his options,” Manuello told Radio CRC – as quoted by Goal.com.
“There is no fear from Olivier about possibly going to Napoli: it is a magnificent city. In Campania, my client could lead a wonderful life.
“Not to mention that the type of game played by [coach Maurizio] Sarri could enhance the quality of a centre forward like him.”
He added: “Olivier is an Arsenal player. So far there has not been any communication [with Arsenal] or contact with Napoli. If Arsenal tell us to leave, then things change.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season after a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the season saw Arsene Wenger’s side hoist themselves above Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners made premature exits in the FA Cup and the Champions League last term.
