Arsenal want to make Lille star Wenger’s third signing – report

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks about the potential summer signing of Lille defender Djibril Sidibe

Arsenal are set to make a transfer bid for Lille defender Djibril Sidibe, according to reports in France.

French newspaper L’Equipe is reporting that the north London side are in negotiations about the possible transfer of the 23-year-old.

The same story says that Monaco were thought to be leading the race for the Frenchman’s signature but talks have stalled, allowing Arsenal to potentially make a move for the player.

Sidibe is a full-back and his arrival at The Emirates would present further competition for Kieran Gibbs from next season.

The Gunners have been linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window but have thus far only signed midfielder Granit Xhaka and striker Takuma Asano.

Arsene Wenger has already signalled his intentions to bolster his strike force this summer with the club’s failed bid to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City.

Now, if the latest reports in France are to be believed, the Arsenal boss is also out to strengthen his defensive options ahead of next season with the signing of Sidibe.
