Arsene Wenger comments on new Arsenal signing

Arsene Wenger is backing Granit Xhaka to have a big impact at Arsenal next season

Arsene Wenger is backing Granit Xhaka to have a positive impact at Arsenal next season following the midfielder’s summer transfer to The Emirates.

The Switzerland international became the north London club’s first signing of the summer transfer window back in May as Wenger moved quickly to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

Xhaka enjoyed a brief summer holiday following his involvement in Euro 2016 with his country but is now back in London and stepping up his preparations for the new season.

And Wenger is confident that Xhaka will slot in well to his plans at The Emirates from next season.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Wenger said: “[Xhaka brings] his passing ability to play through the lines from deep positions, his work rate, and he’s good in the air.

“He’s a young boy as well, 23 years old. There’s a lot to come from him. We lost three midfielders: Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, and numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now.

“Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will come back, Wilshere is back… so we are solid in midfield.”

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season, 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City in the top-flight table.

The Gunners were widely criticised for failing to sustain a title challenge as they ended the campaign without a trophy following their FA Cup victories in 2013 and 2014.
