Arsene Wenger delivers exciting Arsenal transfer update
The Arsenal manager confirms the Gunners are still looking to sign a striker before close of transfer window
Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are still hoping to add one more striker to their squad in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners boss started with England international Theo Walcott up front against the MLS All-Stars on Thursday evening in San Jose as an under-strength Arsenal side eased to a 2-1 victory at Avaya Stadium.
The north London side failed in their attempt to sign Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy earlier this summer after the England man turned down a proposed £20m move to The Emirates.
Wenger has been linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window but Arsenal’s only big-name signing thus far is Switzerland international Granit Xhaka after the midfielder moved in a £33m deal from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Arsenal were without Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in San Jose, and while the Gunners boss was content with the performance of his players on Thursday, Wenger confirmed that he still wants to add more attacking depth to his squad before the close of the summer transfer window.
“Let’s not forget that there are still few players at home. Ozil and Ramsey are at home and Giroud is not here. We have options,” Wenger told his post-match media conference.
“But we are still going to look outside to find one more.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
