Arsene Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of MLS clash
Arsene Wenger confirms Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker is set for a spell on the sidelines
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker is set for a spell on the sidelines ahead of Thursday’s pre-season game against MLS All-Stars in San Jose.
The Gunners flew out to the United States earlier this week as Wenger continues to put his Arsenal players through their paces ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.
The towering Arsenal centre-half picked up a knee injury during their 2-1 victory over French side Lens on Friday ahead of their trip Stateside.
Mertesacker was omitted from the Arsenal squad for the trip to California as Wenger brought centre-halves Calum Chambers and Rob Holding as well as Nacho Monreal, Kieran Gibbs and Mathieu Debuchy.
And Wenger, who was speaking at his pre-match media conference on Tuesday afternoon, has confirmed that the German defender won’t be available for a number of months following the injury setback.

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
The Gunners failed to win any silverware following pre-mature exits in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
