Arsene Wenger discusses Arsenal's failed attempt to sign striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon
Arsene Wenger has refused to be drawn into commenting on Arsenal’s failed bid to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon this summer.
The French club announced that they had rejected a bid from the Gunners earlier in the transfer window via an official statement issued earlier this week.
Arsenal are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements as Wenger looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will return to Lyon with an improved offer for their France striker, but Wenger was clearly frustrated that the French club so openly lifted the lid on the Gunners’ interest in signing the player.
Speaking at a news conference in California on Tuesday night, Wenger said: “Lyon are responsible for their own statements.
“On the transfer front, I think the best [option] is always to keep as secret as possible.
“If we sign somebody, we will announce it. But I cannot tell you much more on that.”
Wenger’s Arsenal came in for plenty of criticism last season after failing to maintain a Premier League title challenge as Leicester City were crowned champions.
The Gunners ended up second in the table and 10 points behind Claudio Ranieri’s men.
