Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger explains why he has moved quickly to sign Japanese forward Takuma Asano
Arsene Wenger has described Japanese forward Takuma Asano as a talented young striker after he became Arsenal’s second signing of the summer on Sunday.
The north London side confirmed via a statement that a deal had been agreed in principle to sign the forward, subject to a medical and regulatory processes.
Asano becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the arrival of midfielder Granit Xhaka back in May.
Speaking to the club’s website, manager Wenger outlined the main reasons why he has acted to bring the 21-year-old Japan international to the club, hinting that he is a player for the future.
Wenger said: “Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future.
“He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”
Takuma signed for Sanfrecce Hiroshima as an 18-year-old in January 2013, making 56 appearances and scoring 11 goals.

Wenger is still believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings as he looks to revamp his squad ahead of next season.
The Gunners finished second in the Premier League table last season.
