Arsene Wenger gives a transfer update which will please Arsenal fans
Arsene Wenger reassures Arsenal fans that the Gunners are still looking for a big-name signing this summer
Arsene Wenger has reassured Arsenal fans that the north London club remain “very active” in the summer transfer market as he prepares his squad for the new season.
The Gunners have already made three summer signings ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, with Wenger moving quickly to sign Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding.
However, the north London side are yet to land the big-name signing that many Arsenal fans are waiting for, despite being linked with a host of players in recent weeks.
Wenger has already signalled his intention to sign a quality striker this summer with the club’s failed bid to land Jamie Vardy from Leicester City before Euro 2016.
And the Frenchman has moved to assure Gunners fans that he and his staff are working hard on bringing in more players this summer.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after Arsenal’s 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with Lens on Friday night, Wenger said: “We are very active [in the transfer market].
“If we find the right candidates then we will spend the big money.
“We have already spent big, Until now, nobody has spent more on a transfer than we have in this country. Even if [Paul] Pogba might fly from Italy to England today, I don’t know…
“Overall we have made a big investment already but we are active.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season, 10 points behind eventual champions Leicester City.
