Atletico to target Liverpool striker if Diego Costa bid fails – report
Atletico Madrid will target Divock Origi if their attempts to sign Chelsea striker fail, according to reports
Atletico Madrid will target Liverpool striker Divock Origi if the Champions League runners-up fail in their attempts to re-sign Chelsea forward Diego Costa, according to Bleacher Report.
The online sports platform are claiming that Los Rojiblancos have identified the Belgium international as a potential alternative to Costa should Chelsea refuse to sell the 28-year-old.
The video report states that Diego Simeone is growing increasingly frustrated at Atletico’s failure to make progress in their pursuit of Costa and Origi is on a list of back-up options for the La Liga outfit.
The Belgian forward established himself as a regular in the Liverpool first-team in the second half of the season as Jurgen Klopp placed his trust in the powerful striker.
Origi rewarded the Liverpool manager’s faith with a return of five goals in five games in March and April before the Reds star was injured in their 4-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The 21-year-old agreed a £12m deal to join Liverpool from Lille following the World Cup in 2014 before the striker was loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the 2014/15 season.
