Brendan Rodgers makes bold claim about Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp
Brendan Rodgers is tipping Liverpool to challenge for the Premier League title next season
Brendan Rodgers believes that Liverpool are capable of mounting a serious title challenge under Jurgen Klopp next season.
The German coach is currently preparing for his first full campaign in charge of the Reds after being appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October.
Liverpool will be looking to significantly improve on their disappointing eighth-placed finish in the Premier League last term when they begin the 2016-17 campaign.
The Reds do not have the distraction of any European football next season and former Liverpool boss Rodgers feels that will work in the Merseyside club’s favour moving forwards.
And Rodgers is backing the Reds to play their part in what looks set to be a brilliant Premier League season.
Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Rodgers said: “I think Liverpool have a great chance this year.
“Liverpool and Chelsea don’t have European football and that’s a huge advantage for you, where you can prepare your team all week for just the one game every week.
“Of course, you’ll have domestic cup games in between that, but I think Liverpool will have a good chance this year.
“But it will be very competitive with the coaches that have come into the Premier League, that makes it exciting and I’m sure it’ll be a fantastic season.”
Liverpool will begin the new Premier League season with a trip to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the 2016-17 campaign.
Rodgers guided Liverpool to a second-placed finish and Champions League qualification during his spell in charge of the Merseyside outfit.
