Chelsea ready to battle Premier League rival for Italy defender – report
Chelsea will compete with Man City for Italy's Euro 2016 star Leonardo Bonucci, according to reports
Chelsea are prepared to battle with Manchester City for Italy and Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror reports that new Blues manager Antonio Conte is desperate to sign the Italy centre-half in the summer transfer window after the 29-year-old’s impressive performances for the Azzurri during the European championship.
However, the same story claims that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of the Juventus defender and the Citizens are thought to be ready to compete with their direct Premier League title rivals for the centre-half.
Chelsea have completed one signing in the summer transfer window so far, snapping up Michy Batshuayi from Ligue 1 side Marseille earlier this month.
Conte, who previously managed Juventus to three Serie A titles, was named as Chelsea’s next permanent manager earlier this year after Guus Hiddink was named as Jose Mourinho’s interim replacement.
Bonucci, who has 62 caps for the Italian national team, has won five Serie A titles and three Coppa Italias during six seasons in Turin following a move from Bari in 2010.
