Chelsea striker tipped to return to Atletico Madrid – report
Chelsea striker Diego Costa is fancied to return to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, say the bookmakers
Diego Costa is being widely tipped to return to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea this summer, according to bookmakers BetStars.
The Spain international endured a difficult second season at the west London side after a spectacular introduction to the Premier League in 2014.
Costa scored just 12 times in 28 top-flight appearances under Jose Mourinho and then interim manager Guus Hiddink.
The 28-year-old moved to Chelsea in a £32m deal from Atletico just months after los Rojiblancos won the La Liga crown and finished as Champions League runners-up.
According to BetStars trading director Ian Marmion, Costa is heavily fancied to return to Vicente Calderon in the summer transfer window as Diego Simeone looks to improve his attacking options.
“After enduring a torrid season with Chelsea, it should come as no surprise that Diego Costa may very well be heading back to Atletico Madrid,” Marmion of BetStars said in a news release sent to The Sport Review.
“Only a few weeks ago BetStars had the forward at 2/1 to return but we’ve seen a lot of movement on this one recently and as a result Costa is now odds on at 1/4 to re-join his former club.”
Costa scored 20 times in 26 Premier League appearances for the west Londoners in the 2014/15 campaign as the west London side secured their fourth top-flight crown under Mourinho.
The Spanish centre-forward netted 43 times in 94 games for Atletico as los Rojiblancos won La Liga and Copa del Rey.
