David Beckham makes bold prediction about Man United and Jose Mourinho

David Beckham runs the rule over new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho

David Beckham says he is confident Jose Mourinho will be a success at Manchester United.

The 53-year-old was appointed as the Red Devils’s new manager in May after Louis van Gaal led United to a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League table last term.

While the Dutch coach led the 20-time English champions to FA Cup glory at Wembley, Van Gaal was axed in favour of Mourinho ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea last December, wasted no time adding new players to his squad after snapping up Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Former United midfielder Beckham, who never played under Mourinho during an illustrious career at Old Trafford, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain, issued his backing for the manager ahead of the new Premier League season.

“I fully expect it to work. With Jose leaving Chelsea and now coming back into the Premier League with United, for me it is a great move,” Beckham told Sky Sports.

“I had huge respect for Van Gaal, but it did not work out the way people expected it to. But I think at the end of the day, now it is a new start for United. We have had a couple over the last three or four years, which is not the Manchester United style, who are used to a manager like Sir Alex Ferguson being in there for so many years.”

The Red Devils will start their Premier League campaign with a trip to Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side.

United lost 4-1 to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in their most-recent pre-season friendly.
