David Seaman: Who Arsenal need to sign in the summer transfer window
David Seaman wants Arsene Wenger to make a couple more signings to improve his Arsenal squad this summer
David Seaman says Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger still needs to sign a centre-half and a striker in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners manager has been linked with a number of different players in the summer transfer window but Wenger has only completed two deals so far.
Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka moved to the Gunners in a £33m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach before the start of Euro 2016.
Wenger completed the surprise signing of young Japanese forward Takuma Asano earlier this month after Jamie Vardy committed his future to Leicester City.
However, the Arsenal manager has been left frustrated in his pursuit of a world-class centre-forward despite being linked with big names such as Gonzalo Higuain and Julian Draxler.
Former Gunners goalkeeper Seaman, who won two Premier League titles under Wenger, believes the north London side really need a new signing that is capable of lifting the club ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.
“We still need a dominant centre-half. We’ll see what Granit [Xhaka]’s like in midfield, but ideally we need someone like Patrick Vieira. And a striker as well,” Seaman told talkSPORT.
“He needs to buy someone to give the club a lift and give the fans a lift.
“Ideally a striker would be great, but either a centre-half or midfielder would do for me.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League last term.
The Gunners will start their top-flight campaign with a home clash against Arsenal on 14 August.
