Francis Coquelin comments on new Arsenal signing

Francis Coquelin is backing Granit Xhaka to be a success at Arsenal next season

Francis Coquelin is backing Granit Xhaka to be a success at Arsenal following his transfer to the north London club this summer.

Arsene Wenger moved quickly to bring in the Swiss midfielder as the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window back in May as he set about bolstering his squad ahead of next season.

Xhaka is currently enjoying his summer holidays before reporting to London to begin his pre-season preparations with his new club.

The Swiss star’s arrival is likely to add further competition for places in Arsenal’s midfielder.

However, Coquelin has welcomed the midfielder’s arrival and is looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Coquelin said: “It’s Arsenal Football Club, we know we’re going to sign quality players.

“I saw him in the Euros and he’s a good passer of the ball, he’s strong and good in the air so I think he’s going to add quality and strength to the squad and that’s a good thing.”

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season, 10 points behind eventual champions Leicester City.
