Harry Redknapp: Why I’m still a fan of this Chelsea star
Harry Redknapp would still sign Eden Hazard if he was looking to snap up a Euro 2016 star
Harry Redknapp says he is still a fan of Eden Hazard despite the Chelsea forward’s disappointing 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
The Belgium international struggled for the defending champions last season as he failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League until April despite scoring 16 times in Chelsea’s title-winning campaign under Jose Mourinho in 2015.
Hazard, however, managed to find some form during Euro 2016 as the Belgium captain scored his only goal against Hungary but made four assists in his final five Euro 2016 games before a 3-1 defeat by Wales in the last eight.
The 25-year-old is tasked with impressing new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte this term after the Italy head coach was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor.
Asked who new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola should target in terms of Euro 2016 stars, former Spurs boss Redknapp singled out Chelsea forward Hazard for special praise.
“Personally, I would still take Hazard he’s had one or two flashes in the tournament, but I thought Hazard’s performance against Hungary was fantastic,” Redknapp told BetSafe.
“I’m still a fan of Hazard. He didn’t have a great season last year at Chelsea but the year before he was named player of the year. I would pick Hazard all day; I think he’s a fantastic talent. He could be a great player for Man City.”
Hazard scored one goal and made five assists in five European championship appearances for the Red Devils in the tournament in France.
The Belgian star has won the Premier League, the League Cup and the Europa League since his move to Chelsea from Lille in 2012.
