Insider claims this striker could be Arsenal’s back-up transfer option
Arsenal are working on a "secret" transfer this summer but could turn to Alexandre Lacazette, according to Emanuele Giulianelli
Arsenal will turn to Alexandre Lacazette this summer if they are unable to land their first-choice striker target, according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
The Gunners have inevitably been linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window but are yet to land the big-name signing that many of the club’s fans are craving.
Arsenal have thus far signed midfielder Granit Xhaka, defender Rob Holding and striker Takuma Asano this summer.
The north London side are believed to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer – and Arsene Wenger has already signalled his intention to sign a new forward with the club’s failed bid for Jamie Vardy before Euro 2016.
Lyon striker Lacazette has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent days by reports in the British media.
However, Italian journalist Guilianelli says that Lacazette is not Arsenal’s first-choice striker target this summer.
Writing in his column for Tribal Football, Giulianelli said: “Despite all rumours, Alexandre Lacazette, of Lyon, is still not the first option for the striker role [at Arsenal], but he is ready to land.
“Arsenal are working on a secret name, not yet revealed, and the recent trip to Germany of some club members could mean something. Or maybe it was for [Julian] Draxler? No-one knows yet.
“What we know is when and if Arsenal realize that they won’t be able to take their first choice, they will take Lacazette. The budget ready for the striker plus the winger is about £100m.”
