Jack Wilshere comments on new Arsenal signing
Jack Wilshere is backing Granit Xhaka to be a solid signing for Arsenal next season
Jack Wilshere is confident that Granit Xhaka will be a big hit in his first season at Arsenal.
The Swiss midfielder became the north London club’s first signing of the summer transfer window back in May as Arsene Wenger moved quickly to bolster his squad at The Emirates.
Xhaka is currently on tour in America as the Gunners continue their preparations for the new season and the Switzerland international adapts to life at the club ahead of his first campaign in England.
And Wilshere, who has come up against Xhaka on a number of occasions, feels that the midfielder is a strong addition to the Gunners’ squad ahead of next season.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Wilshere said: “I’ve played against him a few times at youth level for England and also for the first team with England, so I know him quite well.
“I’ve always thought he was a good player, he’s very strong and has got a good left foot.
“He’s a leader, he can hold the midfield together and can get things going from back to front. He’s a good signing.”
Wilshere will be hoping that he can stay injury free this season after he missed most of the last campaign with a serious ankle injury.
The Gunners ended up in second place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind champions Leicester City in the top-flight table.
