Jose Mourinho labels Man United youngster ‘incredible’ after first display
Jose Mourinho was particularly impressed by Andreas Pereira's display for Manchester United on Saturday
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he has been thoroughly impressed by what he has seen from Andreas Pereira since his appointment as Manchester United boss.
Pereira was a second-half substitute during United’s 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in their first pre-season friendly game on Saturday afternoon, the 20-year-old netted the Red Devils’ second goal at the DW Stadium to wrap up victory.
It remains to be seen whether Mourinho is planning to give Pereira a regular run in the Manchester United first team during his first season in charge at Old Trafford.
However, the Manchester United boss was clearly extremely impressed by the youngster’s impact on the game at the weekend.
Speaking in an interview with MUTV after the win, Mourinho heaped praise on Pereira and also singled out fellow youngster Axel Tuanzebe for his display.
Mourinho said: “Andreas [Pereira] has lots of talent. He has incredible vision and an incredible technique.
“With Axel [Tuanzebe] – 10 minutes is enough! The potential is there, you could see it immediately. If anyone sees him for the first time then 10 minutes is enough to see the potential.
“That’s just talking about two players but the reality is the kids, without pressure and in a calm environment and not in the fire but in a cool situation for them, were very good. And it was very good for me to see what they can do.”
United appointed Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor at Old Trafford after Louis van Gaal’s sacking by the club at the end of May, just days after he led them to FA Cup glory.
