Jose Mourinho: My promise to Man United fans
Jose Mourinho insists that he knows what is expected of him by the fans at Manchester United
Jose Mourinho has insisted that he knows what Manchester United fans will expect from him next season.
The Portuguese coach has been selected as the man to take over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford and steer the club back to the top of English football.
Mourinho has been appointed as the Red Devils’ new boss on a three-year contract and is now gearing up for his first full season at Old Trafford.
United will have to do without Champions League football next season after their fifth-placed finish in the Premier League last term.
However, Mourinho insists that he is ready for the job and is looking forward to taking charge at the club.
Speaking at his first news conference as United boss at Old Trafford on Tuesday morning, Mourinho said: “It’s a job everyone wants and not many have, and I have it.
“I know what the fans expect from me.
“This challenge doesn’t make me nervous, it comes in the right moment for my career. I have great motivation. I am where I want to be. I want to be in this club, in this county, in the domestic cups.
“Manchester United is a Champions League club. In July 2017, instead of waiting for Europa League play-offs, we make sure this club is where it is meant to be – the Champions League.”
United won the FA Cup last season under Van Gaal but opted to sack the Dutchman just two days after he lifted the trophy at Wembley.
