Jose Mourinho raises questions about new Man United signing
Jose Mourinho admits that he is not sure Eric Bailly is ready to go straight into the Manchester United first team
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is not sure that Eric Bailly is good enough to start for Manchester United following his summer transfer to the club.
The Portuguese coach moved quickly to sign the 22-year-old defender from Villarreal following his appointment as the club’s new manager.
Mourinho currently has Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones all available in his defence, with Daley Blind also capable of playing at the back.
The new United boss says that he will need some time to assess whether Bailly has the quality to slot straight into the Red Devils team or if he will need some time to adapt.
Speaking in an interview with MUTV, Mourinho said: “Is he ready to come here and perform from day one? I don’t know. It’s a question mark. It is my job to erase those question marks.
“He has all the attributes – very strong, very fast and technically very good. He’s played as a right-back and that is good for a central defender.
“I could compare him with some players I had previously, but I don’t want to!”
Mourinho was officially unveiled to the media as United boss for the first time on Tuesday afternoon.
