Jose Mourinho: Why this Man United player has impressed me so much
Jose Mourinho has been very impressed by what he has seen from Luke Shaw in recent days
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he has been very impressed by Luke Shaw’s work ethic since his appointment as Manchester United’s new manager.
The left-back missed most of last season after suffering a horrific broken leg during the Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain back in September.
Shaw has been working hard on his fitness levels in recent months and has made sure that he has given himself the best possible chance of being ready for the new Premier League season.
Mourinho – who officially took over as Manchester United boss for the first time earlier this month – has been very impressed by what he has seen from the England international thus far at Carrington.
Shaw was named in the starting line-up for United’s first pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
And Mourinho was full of praise for the defender before the game.
Speaking to MUTV, Mourinho said: “I was expecting him to start the pre-season with some limitations – a little bit of weight and less sharpness.
“But the physical point of view is good and more than that, the mental point of view is good.
“The kid was great in the summer. He worked every day at the training ground to try to be ready for this.”
