Jurgen Klopp comments on new Liverpool signing
Jurgen Klopp admits his delight at seeing Liverpool complete the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle
Jurgen Klopp could not hide his delight after watching Liverpool complete their seventh signing of the summer with the capture of Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United on Friday.
The midfielder signed his contract with the Reds on Friday evening to follow the arrivals of Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Marko Grujic, Sadio Mane, Ragnar Klavan and Alex Manninger at Anfield this summer.
Wijnaldum scored 11 goals in 38 Premier League appearances in his first season in England following a move from PSV Eindhoven last summer but was unable to prevent the Magpies from being relegated.
Klopp is clearly out to make sure that he has the strongest possible squad as he prepares for his first full season in charge at Liverpool.
And the German coach has revealed his delight at seeing the Reds complete the deal to sign Wijnaldum from the Magpies on Friday on a long-term contract, with the player having jetted off to the USA to link up with his new team-mates.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Klopp said: “I am so happy that we have got him and he can join us now in the USA.
“I think he can be a great player for us. He has already shown some really good moments in his career but the most exciting and important thing for me and my staff is that there is still so much extra to come from him.
“When I talked to him I could tell that he knows we have to work together to get this level out of him to all be successful for the team.”
