Jurgen Klopp: What I really think about Chelsea boss Antonio Conte

Jurgen Klopp is expecting to see Antonio Conte be a big hit at Chelsea next season

Jurgen Klopp has described Antonio Conte as a “brilliant manager” and is expecting the Italian coach to bring success to Chelsea next season.

Conte is currently getting to grips with life as Chelsea’s new manager after officially taking over at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

The Italian was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor at Stamford Bridge earlier this year after the Blues’ disastrous campaign last term.

Conte watched his new Chelsea side beat Liverpool 1-0 in their most recent pre-season friendly game in America on Wednesday night.

And Klopp admits that he is a keen admirer of Conte as the pair both gear up for their first full seasons in charge in the Premier League.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN FC, Klopp said: “I saw him [Conte] actually at the European Championships and, yeah, he was quite emotional [on the touchline and] I thought, ‘sometimes am I like this?’

“He’s a brilliant manager and it will be a tough season for both of us.”

Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor at Liverpool back in October after the Reds axed the Northern Irishman.

He led Liverpool to the League Cup and Europa League final and an eighth placed finish in the Premier League last season.
